Five years ago I swore off network marketing for many reasons. One of my best friends and I were travel buddies and she was my up-line leader. We have been friends since high school and I know her very, very well. After I quit my last company we lost touch for a while as I focused on my regular brick and mortar business. Then, one day she posted a picture of herself on Facebook, I was blown away. She looked phenomenal! It took all of 2 minutes for me to decide to phone her and find out how she lost ALL of that weight. She invited me to her place for a cup of coffee and a catch up visit. Her demeanor was so calm, and happy; unlike her usual temperament. Something was very different. Then, when I tasted the coffee I knew…yummy and smooth. She shared that she had been given a sample of this weight loss coffee that I was drinking. She didn’t change a thing to lose that weight, only added drinking one cup of coffee per day; she even had sweetener and cream in hers! I bought a box. We were moving the following day and in that move I lost the coffee. Months later I found it, started to drink it and within a month I lost 10 pounds, several inches and knew that I had to tell others of my success. With one post to Facebook my inbox blew up. I had people calling me, messaging me, it was insane. So, long story short by sharing a cup of coffee with me, my friend changed my business life and health forever. I became a marketing partner and the rest is history.
- What does a typical day look like as in the like of someone who runs their own business?
Unlike what many people think I get up early and get organized for the day. Starting with my coffee that helps me focus, I plan out posts on social media, connect with new people, answer messages, prepare samples to mail, and then begin working my regular job of being an auto transport broker and dispatcher. Most people post a lot of nonsense, like I wake up when I want to, work in PJ’s and play when I want to. The part of the story they leave out is that part comes after they achieve some success. In the beginning we have to learn our chosen business, get training, and get our customer base established so income is flowing. Working at home is awesome and I wouldn’t trade it for the world; but, you have to be as dedicated to YOUR own business as you are to that job you want to leave.
3. What attributes does someone need to have in order to be really successful in this position?
To succeed in any network marketing business you must have desire to try something new and different, you must believe in your product which means you must use it and experience it’s benefits to share with others, you must have drive, the determination to get up when others are sleeping in, work when others are out playing because they’ve settled for an 8 to 5 job; and, that’s okay, because working at home is not for everyone. You must want something different for yourself and figure out why you are willing to do this extra work. You must be willing to learn, implement and fail. Yes, you must fail in order to learn and then as you grow you will have the knowledge and experience to lead others to their goals and dreams.
4. What are the biggest challenges that someone in this position would face?
Challenges are what you make them. Some people look at a business as something you can just sign a paper and start. In business it doesn’t work that way; you need money to get started, you need time to spend learning and working, you need people to talk with. If any of these things make you gulp or take a step back, then perhaps business isn’t for you, this one or any other. It takes determination and desire to want to change your life, challenges are part of life and business alike. Be willing to overcome challenges and you are on your way to owning your own life and business.
5. What did you do before you started your business?
Before starting my coffee business I worked at home in auto transport brokering and dispatching. I also started selling on eBay and Amazon as a way to make money to be able to start my business. I’ve always been an entrepreneur, since I was young. Having a strong work ethic has helped me learn, fail and grow as a woman over 50, a wife, mother and grandma, too.
6. Please tell us about your business, the products you offer?
Currently, we offer four products. Our flagship product is the weight loss coffee; but, it is so much more. This coffee has helps my mood, focus, suppresses my appetite, cuts my craving for sugar, levels out my blood sugar so I no longer experience the afternoon crashes and so much more!
The next product is a companion to the coffee, a capsule that contains a patented formula that targets the visceral fat, the brown fat that is generally responsible for our jelly belly. This fat is the hardest part to lose and this product targets it which is why my belly is half of what it was four months ago.
We also have a phenomenal skin care system; one that used to be available only through physicians and a prescription. This product is top of the line and better than any system I’ve EVER used.
Finally, we have a water ionizer that is by far the best machine for alkaline perfect PH water. This machine infuses water with H2 for proper PH levels and taste; talk about nourishing our bodies with the perfect hydration!
7. What is your favorite part about working from home?
I set my own schedule. When I need to work, I work. If my kids and grandkids need me, I can adjust my work schedule and take care of what is important in life. I absolutely love that I now control my time to be involved with the grandkids and their events like horse dressage, jumping events; fiddle performances and even going to the zoo or Discovery Center.
8. What can you tell me about your new products or plans for growth?
I am currently searching for women over 50 who want to take off those unwanted pounds, the jelly belly or muffin top that is unhealthy and aging them unnecessarily. I’m looking for that one person who is hungry for change, who wants to alter their current empty bank account and are sick and tired of living paycheck to paycheck, unable to even consider treating themselves let alone the kids or grandkids. If you are reading this and see yourself in the above statements, lets chat and see if we are a match to work together.
9. What do you feel is your greatest sales accomplishment and when/why did it happen?
My greatest sales accomplishment had not one thing to do with me, nothing. The accomplishment came from finding and sharing a product that works for me. Other women over 50 saw the change in me and approached me, they are the ones who deserve the recognition. Those women deserve the praise for being courageous enough to say “enough is enough” and stepping up and out to change their futures. This happened when my girlfriend shared that first cup of coffee with me, when I decided enough was enough. You see, it only takes one brave woman to change many, many lives.
10. How do you balance client expectations versus real expectations? How do you handle it when they are too high?
Handling client expectations is handled prior to the sale. When I share my story I do not make it bigger than it truly is; when I share weight loss stories, I know the person I am sharing about and keep it real, always. These products are good enough that the results will speak for themselves. Keeping life’s truths in front of people help them to see reality from false claims.
11. Pretend I’m a prospect and give me an example of a pitch of a product or service you are selling.
Renee, how are you? Gosh, it’s been awhile since we last visited. Do you have time to come over for a cup of coffee and a catch up visit? (This is if YOU live close by) Sitting at the kitchen table I make up the coffee in front of you, which makes you wonder what it is, where did I get it and why not percolated coffee? These questions come up in normal conversation as I share what’s been going on in my life and ask about yours. When you ask me how I lost my weight I point to the cup of coffee you are drinking and tell you that by drinking one cup of that coffee I lost ten pounds and inches off of my belly in a little over a month. Then I ask you “do you like the coffee”? Next question would be “do you want to lose weight”? Depending on your answers I would follow those questions with “who do you know that loves coffee and wants to lose weight, too”? Then we go from there to either order your coffee as a customer or you decide to start your business and share, too.
If you don’t live close by I use the same questions, sending samples if they want to try it before buying a box or two.
12. How do you keep up to date on your target market?
Finding my target market is as simple as looking for people like myself. I constantly am searching for people to talk to about my business. Not everyone is my target market; but, as a networker I do just that…network to help others find their target market and in turn they send me mine.
13. Tell Us about your company, how it started, products you offer.
The network marketing company I chose to build my business with is focused on building a company that is different; focused on its customer base and distributors they provide top quality products, patented to set the product apart from imitations that are out there touting results that their product doesn’t provide. With solid leadership our company and products have proven to deliver on their promises.
14. What is the best seller of your products?
By far, our weight loss coffee is our best seller as it gets results, tastes great and can be used hot, cold or in various recipes.
15. How do you feel your product or services can benefit others?
The products I share with people not only help them lose weight, but it helps with leveling out blood sugars, helps mental focus and moods, controls appetite so you don’t inhale your meals; rather you eat, bite by bite to savor each mouthful, the products even help regulate fat absorption. Besides these specific benefits, when each of these benefits are combined overall the result is healthier, leaner bodies and increased energy, better sleep and longer life.
16. What are some of your favorite questions to ask a potential client or customer?
A few questions I have put together are: Do you like coffee? Do you want to lose weight? What have you tried before? How did that work for you? Are you open to a side project that wouldn’t interfere with what you are currently do? Do you want to earn extra money? What would you do with time freedom? Have you ever considered working at home?
17. What roll does Social media play in your selling process?
I tried network marketing and its traditional methods for over 16 years…it didn’t work for me. I hated and failed at giving/hosting home parties. Hotel meetings were the pits, besides the expense it took time away from my family and what I wanted to do after work. So, I turned to learning how to market and grow my business using social media. I’m still learning and am not perfect, but if anyone is looking to earn extra income, build a network marketing business working at home this is the only way to go in my opinion.
18. How do you handle irate clients/customers?
I don’t know; I’ve never had one. I believe managing expectations upfront, being totally transparent and honest will prevent irate clients, customers and distributors.
19. What’s worse not reaching a goal every month or not having happy customers?
In my book, customers are everything, without them I have no business. Goals come and go; customer relationships are everything to me. If you are a customer of mine, we become partners in your health, business and life.
20. If you were a potential client/customer what would you want to hear about your business, products or services.
That is easy, all I have to do is go back to that kitchen table with my girlfriend, sipping that first cup of coffee. This is how our conversation went, from the first phone call to the day I enrolled as a distributor and business partner.
I wanted to know:
How she lost all that weight.
What does it taste like?
Is it affordable?
How do I get it?
Do I have to sell it?
Can I sell it to others?
Will you support me on my journey?
21. Do you have a website? If so, please post it – http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ebook
22. Do you have photos of products so others can view what you offer?
Yes and no. Looking at photos will do nothing for you, it will not tell you how it tastes, how it makes you feel nor will it help you decide if you want to use or sell it.
Instead, if someone is interested and genuinely wants to try it they can request a sample by visiting: http://CarlaJGardiner.com/sample
23. Please tell us anything you feel is important for others to know about your business or services. Feel free to share any information that might would help others decide to join you or purchase from you.
There are a lot of systems and products on the market; many are effective tools to use to regain your health, ideal weight and that will fit your lifestyle. I don’t believe there is any ONE perfect product for everyone; that is why there are so many to choose from. What each person reading this interview must do is their own research. You must find a person you connect with, get to know them, like and trust what they are sharing with you. Find the products you can effectively use successfully and then don’t be selfish, share with others just like I’m sharing with you today.
24. How can someone contact you if they are interested in a service or product you offer?

25. Is there anything else you would like to add about your business, services or products?
The most important thing about me, my business and products is that I am very transparent. I will always tell you the truth as I have learned it. I won’t puff up the results just to get you to join or purchase from me. I will always share my personal results and likes and dislikes with you. My first priority is to connect and learn what it is that YOU are looking for. I want to know how I can best help you in your journey of confronting life’s changes.
